Kristi Thrailkill, LCSW-C
Owner & Lead Psychotherapist
Education/Background:
I earned my Bachelor's Degree from the accredited Social Work Program at Salisbury University, later completing my Master's Degree (MSW) through the Advanced Standing Program at the University of Maryland - Baltimore. I graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a specialization in Child and Family Welfare, and as a member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society. I interned with the Division of Family Services, Child Protection Unit in Delaware for my undergraduate degree, and at a school for children with speech and hearing disabilities (diagnoses ranging from Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Selectively Mute, Deaf, etc) for my Masters. I spent 7 years post-graduate working with a therapeutic foster care agency in Baltimore, MD. I am currently a licensed clinical therapist with over 15 years of experience in the social work field. I have worked as a private practice clinician for over 8 years, and I am now the owner for Baltimore Family Therapy, LLC in Parkville, MD.
My Specialties:
I love working in the scope of human relationships, doing some of my best work with couples and families, or with individuals balancing relationship struggles. When I see children, I work closely with the family unit as a whole...incorporating parent-coaching, communication, and behavioral management skills, always with a strong emphasis on positive behavior reinforcement. Much of my sessions with adults are spent exploring past and current relationships, often inviting others (mothers, spouses, siblings, etc) to our sessions to work on issues that may be weighing everyone down. Relationship lost it's fire? Let's relight the flame with innovative date ideas, fun homework (it's a thing!), and lessons on forgiveness.
I specialize in anxiety and other related struggles (school anxiety, self-harm, OCD, separation anxiety, tics, and poor-behavior as it relates). I work closely with teachers, guidance counselors, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members that might be of benefit for you or your child. I see children ages 5+, and I work with parents on behaviors as early as infancy (let's talk sleep training!).
My Not-So-Specialties:
I don't take clients who are working with Hospice, have children in Hospice, the geriatric community, or any type of addictions. These issues all hit me in a place that won't make me helpful to you. But I am more than happy to send you a great referral to someone who CAN help with these issues. Don't hesitate to reach out.
Who am I when I'm not in the chair?
I'm the wife to an amazing husband, the mother to 2 wonderful children, a traveler to anywhere the plane flies, and a binge-watcher of all the Netflix.
I love what I do...It's truly a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together.
Hopefully we can work together soon.
