Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do you accept my insurance? Why not?
A: We do not accept insurance directly. Many of us are on the Out of Network list for Blue Cross, Aetna, United Healthcare, and Cigna. What does that mean? You pay directly for your sessions at time of service. Detailed receipts can be provided to you at the end of every month for your own submission for reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company directly for any Out of Network and/or reimbursement related information. It is always advisable to ask your insurance company if you have "Out of Network Benefits for mental health services" and if they are included with your individual therapist. Each insurance company is different and not all have each therapist listed in their system. Payment is due at the time of service. We don't accept insurance, because we don't want insurance companies dictating your treatment, limiting sessions, or having access to your records. Many clinicians that accept insurance are forced to see higher caseloads in order to sustain their practice, and we would rather be more accessible and available to our clients. If you have an emergency, you can bet that your clinician, or one of their amazing teammates will be there to help you through. When you call your therapist, they will call you back within 24 hours every single time. You will never speak to an administrative assistant or secretary. We pride ourselves on providing you with a personalized, comprehensive, and supportive experience, and we see results, because you see the value in your time in therapy as much as we do.

Q: How much do therapy sessions cost?
A: Sessions are $195 per session with Kristi Thrailkill, $175 with Anna Santowski, and $165 with all other clinicians--no matter individual, family, or couple. Cash, Check, Credit, and HSA Cards are all accepted.

Q: Why do I need to have a credit card on file?
A: Credit cards are saved, using a HIPAA compliant computer program. We will never see your full card number unless you ask us to type one in manually. This card will be charged automatically if you prefer to pay via credit, and it will also be used to charge for no-show and late-cancellation appointments.

Q: How long do therapy sessions last?
A: 50 minutes unless preplanned to be longer.

Q: Can I send you text messages?
A: Texting is not a confidential way to communicate, and our phone numbers do not accept text messages. In rare cases (like emergencies or bad weather), your therapist may choose to text you using her personal cell phone. In this case, please do not use this number for anything other than last-minute appointment changes. Please call with anything confidential in nature. Email is great for appointment changes and non-confidential updates. Your privacy is important to us!
Q: What is your commitment to accessibility for your clients?
A: Our Parkville location is ADA accessible in every way, including elevator access to our second floor. Though our Lutherville-Timonium location is on the second floor with stair-access only, we offer telehealth services to all clients that need to have sessions from the comfort of their own home, hospital, or other location. We are also happy to meet outside for walk-and-talk or nature based therapy. Baltimore Family Therapy is committed to keeping our website accessible to all. If ever you have trouble reading or accessing information from this website, please reach out so we can help you through any questions you may have, and update our website to be of better use in the future. If you are in need of a therapist, but you need to use insurance directly, please reach out and ask for referrals to some of our most trusted colleagues! Therapy should be easily accessible to all, and we want to do our part to make it that way.
